If you ever wanted to know what the Church says about politics and economics this just might be a surprise. Separation of Church and State does not mean exactly what the modern "thinker " would like it to mean. The Protestant reader would find nothing evil here, other than of course that it is Catholic. Note that references to the Jewish Nation are quite distinct from the Jewish People for whom the Church has the utmost Charity as the chosen People of God. No doubt some who read only the index and not the book will cry as usual, "racist, anti-semitic." The book comprising of 590 pages is divided into FIVE parts. I can do no better than listing these, detailing some selected chapters and quotes. The complete Chapter detail will appear below.

SOME BASIC REFORMS
quote:
"
(1) That each nation should have its own money.
(2) That each nation should keep its internal general price level stable, using Price Index figures for this purpose.
(3) That the exchange values of these national currencies, i.e. the exchange rates, should be immutably fixed by agreement between the co-operating nations, regardless of Gold.
(4) That there should be no international money.
(5) That all international trade should be done on Bills of Exchange negotiated, as at present(1940), through the ordinary channels of the Banks, and discounted by them with the National Central Bank.
(6) That no private individual or private institution should buy, sell or own foreign currencies.
(7) That all the foreign currencies acquired by a nation through the sale abroad of its goods,...should be held for the nation by its Central Bank, the individual citizen of that nation receiving their own national money at the fixed exchange rate in lieu of those foreign currencies.
(8) That there should be a Central Bankers' Clearing House which would in no sense be an International Bank, but merely a common meeting place where the respective National Central Banks of the co-operating nations could meet one another to exchange the claims which they might hold to the goods of one nation, for claims to the goods of others, and where they might cancel out their claims on one another."
TWO IMPORTANT POINTS FOLLOWING ON THIS:
"Trading in money: Trading in a country's monetary standard of measurement (money) as a commodity and then thereby varying its value should be made a punishable crime exactly the same as attempts to interfere with the national weights and measures.
Stock Exchanges: The reform of the stock exchanges all over the world is long overdue. We have already seen how speculations opposed to social justice and the common good are favoured by the private manufacture of bank-credit. "
